I was walking along Clarke Quay last Friday when a sweaty man in a black suit approached me with this flower. I was shocked and at a loss whether to accept it because (1) he just stuck out his hand when he 'gave' me the flower and (2) who the hell is he. Then he opened his mouth which said the magic words which will drive all cheapskate Singaporeans like me into frenzy: "Don't worry, it's free." Great, do I really look that cheapskate? [Yeah of course I do.]
I blushed and took the flower from his hand. He passed me a card at the same time. It turns out that this was PROJECT: WOMEN AGAINST AIDS and the agenda of that card and free flower is to make women realise that "he loves you when he respect you".
And so today I went to Clarke Quay again (this time with Dear), and they were giving the flowers again. I was sitting at the stone steps somewhere near The Central and I observe them unpacking the flowers and giving out the flowers. Initially, they gave out some to women (aunties). Then suddenly, these guys were surrounded with aunties, children and uncles. A few emerged with 2 - 5 stalks in their hands. I overheard an auntie telling a young kid to take 'the pink one' from the 'distribution centre' though she already had a yellow one in her hand. Then she went there herself to exchange a pink one and she took another pink flower. So in the end I believe she have 3 stalks.
Then it became more outrageous. The flowers that are not being distributed by the guys are placed on top of the cardboard box they are packed in. Some of the people began CHOOSING flowers from there and taking it themselves, entirely replicating the scene where aunties are buying flowers in the wet market. And within 20 minutes, the flowers are all gone.
Yeah fine, it's free and I myself had taken 1 after hearing the magic words (last Friday). But I find that it's ridiculous when people took more than needed, especially when it's for a campaign like this. I don't think those aunties and uncles will actually read the card (if they hadn't throw it away or something).
Much to my exasperation, 2 young girls (like the age of 14 - 16), sat beside us with 2 stalks in each of their hands.

Tried to make a non-bake oreo cheesecake from a recipe gotten online. But the results was... a bit too unpleasant-looking.
Taste-wise, it's not as bad as it looks.
For lunch today, we went to PASTA de WARAKU @ Marina. It's hidden at the other end of Marina Square, people seldom walk there, but then, you can't really miss it since the exterior of the restaurant is so eye-catching; there are rows and rows of plastic-made pastas, pizzas, soups, rice and desserts on the windows, and all of them look so good that I even wanted to take some close-up pictures of plastic pasta I would like to eat.
But sadly, the quality of food there disappoint me, a lot.
Dear ordered this:
and I ordered this:
Looks great eh? I was waiting in anticipation. The accompanying salad tasted great. But when the main dish came, I was thinking: did I order this?
A handful chunks of salmon approximately 1.5 cm x 1.5 cm x 2 cm and a few stalks of spinach on top of a plate of spaghetti. That's all I've got. If compared with the one on the menu, I believe the poportion of salmon and spinach is barely half as that in the picture shown in the menu.
Then Dear's pasta came. It was all a mass of black! I couldn't really differentiate the squid rings from the pasta. It's just BLACK! Since I couldn't really see which is the squid and which is the spaghetti noodle, I have no idea whether they gave him 3 rings or 5 rings of squid.
Anyway, the food taste fine, though the salmon chunks are too salty for my liking and they're so dry. *COMPLAINS COMPLAINS* So we chomp it down quietly and left.
Yes yes I know this kind of thing happens all around Singapore. Foodcourt, kopitiam, you name it, the real deal is not shown on the picture at all. Instead of a nice set of mouthwatering
kuay chap, all we get is a lot of
dao pok, a very small egg, a few small piece of
dua deng and a few piece
san zam ba, and that's not all; after eating it, I will wonder whether the chef used water from the Dead Sea to cook it.
Anyway, I thought that eating at PASTA de WARAKU would be a a more pleasant experience. Boy, I was wrong. I'd rather eat at Ajisan, though their standards have been dropping for the past few months.

Went to join the queue line at the infamous Donut Factory @ Raffles City. Dear was already there at 10 am but I was late. So he went and queued first. He was the 4th person there. When I arrived at 10.30 am, there were a couple of people standing behind him.
The shutters opened at 12 and the staff beckoned us forward. Since this is our first time buying donuts, we wanted to try everything regardless of any reviews. There were 16 flavours in all there. Dear bought 12 + 12 + 6 donuts. We had agreed to eat a dozen together.
We ate the 2nd box. Personally, I like Peanut Dark Chocolate, Spicy Cheese and Apple Cinnamon. I'm not a fan of white chocolate so I do not prefer those white chocolate donuts. Blueberry Glazed is actually not bad, but it's a tinny bit too sweet for my liking.
So for today, my breakfast + lunch + dinner = 6 donuts.

Oh well, I know I hadn't been posting seriously for quite a while, just adding pictures randomly and calls it a post.
Had an eventful week last week, it's school holidays this week. And next week, I'm off to HK. Then it's back to Singapore for the last week of holidays. It seemed so fast.
Hadn't been spreeing much, my account had depreciated a lot. Hence, had been biting my lips and will myself not to buy anything whenever I surf those darn LiveJournals. I even ignored the $10 threadless sale.
... er huh?
